In 2019, BPW Cyprus officially launched the Cyprus Women’s e-Commerce Association, the umbrella organization for our collective e-shop.
Our e-shop is designed to host small businesses or even solo women entrepreneurs in rural areas, offering them the opportunity to present their products or services online. In this way they gain access to an unlimited marketplace, without having to develop their own e-commerce platform.
Our e-shop is a tangible extension of our recognition that rural women have always been the gatekeepers of our rural communities. By hosting them on our e-shop, we are in fact empowering them and boosting their productivity, allowing them to advance and promote their rural business activity, without leaving their homes and families – for the benefit of society and our country as a whole.
The by-products of this venture are invaluable:
- The extended family in rural areas can stay intact
- Urban migration can be somewhat reduced
- Our villages can be revived, and
- Traditional local products, crafts, and skills can be preserved.
Our e-shop already stocks a variety of products from eco-cosmetics to handmade women’s accessories, and from fruit preserves to traditional cured meats. And this is just the beginning. As word gets round, we hope to welcome more women entrepreneurs from across all rural areas in Cyprus.
